making a website load faster

* Optimize your HTML code.
Errors, broken links, unwanted tags, all these things slow down your page load. Make sure your website doesn’t have any errors and is optimized for load time.

* Lessen the use of images, graphics and Flash.
This is the easiest and most optimal solution for designing the fast loading page. The more images you have on your web page the slower it loads, thus try to reduce the use of graphics. Of course they are important for the attractive appearance of your website, but try to be reasonable. The simpler design is better.
As for the Flash animations, well, they indeed are catching and rather useful for attracting your visitors, but if not properly utilized they can slow your page load immensely.

* Create simple icons with tables.
Do not neglect the simple ways. Using tables creatively can bring brilliant results, thus you can get not only great designs but also achieve the faster loading time.

* Use text links.
Try to reduce the use of graphic buttons. Instead use text links. To be able to make them attractive learn some CSS.

* Optimize heavy files.
Reduce the sizes of the images, Flash files and scripts if possible. You can easily do that with the help of Photoshop, Adobe Flash or Fireworks software.

* Stick to simplicity.

The minimalistic and plain designs are more and more popular nowadays, thus your website will look more modern and stylish and will load faster. Isn’t it an awesome plus to the great and professional looks?

    Of course one of the biggest problems on the Internet is that some websites are slow loading. There are many sites that take more than 20 seconds to load — a lifetime on the Internet and some people just don’t have time and patience to wait that long.
    You can simply your website by using more text and fewer graphic. Wild graphics and animations are “traffic killers” so don’t use them unless you really need to. If it takes more than 10 seconds for your web pages to load, chances are you’re losing as much as half of your site’s traffic.

  2. Also, how many HTTP requests your website triggers matters for page load times. So if possible e.g. combine your css files into one, remove Google Analytics on pages where you don’t really need it, etc.

  4. This is great info. Even with many people on high speed internet now, many pages are still too bloated to load up at speeds that people want.

  5. Even with ever-increasing bandwidth, I’m glad to see a lot less flash-only sites on the web.

  6. I think another good tip would be: Use repeating images like you have in your header and body. This looks nice and is a small picture…

  7. I agree with you. I recently built a flash website that took forever to load. After rethinking the design I decided to only have a flash header of 300KB instead of a 2mg flash website. The result was incredible. My bounce rate dropped from 80% to 10%. So the lesson is that even if flash is appealing to visitors they rather not wait too long. Basically if you build a flash website make sure it loads under 10 seconds.

  8. You really need to stay away from using lots of Frames. They can really cause problems. Don’t forget to optimize your graphic files and stay away from using to many png files. Visit us at Data Tech Solutions

    I agree its great that Flash sites are gone, or almost gone. All that waiting for each page to load is ridiculous, what were they thinking. I agree its so important for a site to load fast. Here in South Africa our bandwidth costs are some of the highest in the world and a 1mb line is FAST.

  11. Well i never ever stay on a website that make me wait more than 10 sec. I think one common issue is simply image/graphic size, i constantly notice website that have humongous images that takes horrendous amount of time to load and display images at a quality no better. Especially websites from indonesia
